Birštonas is a spa town and balneological resort in Lithuania situated 30 km (19 miles) south of  Kaunas on the right bank of the Nemunas River. Birštonas received its historical city rights 1529, and was appointed a city in 1966.

Birštonas (deutsch im 18. Jahrhundert als Birschtannen bezeichnet) ist ein Kur- und Badeort im südlichen Teil Litauens. Die Stadt ist Sitz der gleichnamigen Gemeinde im Bezirk Kaunas und befindet sich 30 km südlich der Stadt Kaunas am rechten Ufer der Memel. Der Name der Stadt wird auf biržtva („Birkenhain“) zurückgeführt.
